The recent flooding has had a significant impact on Kalano, with a number of our properties and community facilities affected to varying degrees. We experienced inundation across several areas, resulting in damage to housing, infrastructure, and essential services. While the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, early indications point to both structural impacts and loss of household and operational assets.
Our immediate focus has been on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff, followed by a coordinated clean-up effort. Teams have been working to clear debris, undertake initial repairs and restore basic services as quickly as possible. This has been a whole-of-organisation effort, supported by strong collaboration with local partners and community members.
Despite the challenges, the resilience of the Kalano community has been evident throughout. Staff and residents have shown great determination and adaptability, supporting one another and maintaining a positive focus on recovery and rebuilding.
We anticipate that the cleanup and recovery phase will continue over the coming weeks, with a more detailed assessment to inform long term restoration works.
We work with deep respect for country and its rightful owners, ancestors and elders, past and present.
