Cool living in a hot, dry climate

Cover of a resource for community members about cool living in a hot, dry climate

Cool Living is an excellent resource for Aboriginal housing in the hot, dry climate of Central Australia. It speaks to two different groups about how they can make houses more comfortable to live in. For each group there is a downloadable resource:

  • for community members (PDF 9.2mb) who are sick of hot houses – including tools to understand how best to use houses in summer, and a survey tool to audit houses.
  • for built environment professionals and housing organisations (PDF 17.7mb) – lays out the problems faced in community housing, and includes a suite of tools to prioritise upgrades to community housing to improve thermal comfort in summer.

This resource was produced in 2023 by Bobbie Bayley, director of architectural practice at Dogspike Design & Architecture.
