ENGAGING THE ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY

Aboriginal Housing Northern Territory (AHNT) Aboriginal Corporation is the community-controlled peak body for Aboriginal housing in the Northern Territory. 

AHNT works with the four Northern Territory land councils, the Northern Territory and Australian governments, our members and other stakeholders in the housing sector to influence policy, improve practice and promote agency and transparency in decision-making around Aboriginal housing. 

We have an incredible responsibility and privilege, to help bring about long-lasting, meaningful change for Aboriginal people, who will benefit from a strong and prosperous Aboriginal housing sector.

Residents of YiSSA to be relocated to Batchelor

Aboriginal Housing Northern Territory (AHNT), the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) and the North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) are deeply disappointed by today’s announcement from the Northern Territory Government that residents of YiSSA Short-Stay Accommodation will be relocated to Batchelor following the closure of YiSSA.

We condemn the recent comment made by Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro that the YiSSA homelessness facility is a waste of money. The Chief Minister’s comments are hurtful to the hundreds of families who rely on YiSSA for safety.
